Located in the heart of Yerevan, Amar restaurant lands in the middle of the Hrazdan canyon. We designed and built this restaurant back in 2020; it was totally open-air, which is why it was operating during several months of the year. Soon we had to redesign the entire restaurant, enlarge it, and enclose it under a roof to enable year-round operation. The rich greenery of the valley served as a cornerstone for us, upon which we built the restaurant concept.
We were guided by the idea of bringing the external environment into the interior. Since we decided that the spectacular view of the canyon could not be fully covered, we decided to design the cover as open and transparent as possible. The openings in the ceiling are designed to let in the sunlight; the whole ceiling is covered with small point lights, so it looks like a sky full of stars. Aiming not to overload the design, we left all the walls white, and even the bar area is completely white with wooden decorated fragments. Large travertine sculptures and mirrors with our design are placed in different parts of the hall. In the hall, there is one huge table; instead of its legs, we placed a root of a big tree, which was found and pulled out of the Aegean Sea. This restaurant belongs to the alfresco and biophilic design categories.
